Our
Story

The Pencil Sceptre is helmed by an English graduate from NTU who has taught English and Literature exclusively for nearly two decades. Being attuned to the tuition industry, she came to recognize that there is a dearth of quality education providers for Literature students pursuing the A'level, IB and IP curricula. As each school teaches different texts and harnesses unique approaches to literature, this warrants a highly bespoke program for maximum academic improvement. However, in time efficient Singapore, not everyone is willing to put in the hefty time investment in literature education. Teaching literature requires patience, passion and talent, hereby giving rise to The Pencil Sceptre.

Tutor Cheryl is the author of several published books, as well as e-books on literature. She has helped students from all academic backgrounds achieve their maximum potential for English and Literature. Here are a few elements that students can expect from their experience with the centre:

  • rigorous marking standards in line with their specific curriculum

  • uniquely crafted resources, materials and notes

  • holistic knowledge on art and history beyond the set texts

  • personalized feedback and round the clock support

Beyond helping students achieve academic excellence, the program aims to cultivate a sense of genuine appreciation for the craft of writing, that will accompany the student into the future. Beyond academics, a good language foundation is vital for self-development and self-expression.

Highly experienced in teaching a wide range of texts

The body of literature texts is ever-changing, as the curricula are constantly being updated. The program adopts a structural approach to learning, maximizing clarity and familiarity with the texts in the shortest possible time. Here is a non-exhaustive list of texts that have been taught.

Teacher Cheryl has helped my daughter tremendously in literature, especially in understanding the nuances of the novels. She took the time to explore different ways of explaining parts of the novel that are difficult to grasp. Thank you!
